Property transactions
The legal acquisition and dispersal of property took a radical turn in Nova Scotia earlier this decade with
the province-wide adoption of the Land Registration Act. Property ownership laws largely stayed the same,
but the way we buy and sell land did not.
At Ritch Durnford, we are fully trained and authorized to perform property transactions under
the LRA and we are comfortable in the conversion of properties to the Land Registration System.
We also regularly oversee tax searches and reporting on those searches to clients.
We represent
developers and owners in the acquisition, financing, leasing and sale of commercial real estate. We have
advised and assisted Halifax Regional Municipality in the acquisition and disposition of school properties,
and lease-to-purchase arrangements for municipal properties.
In terms of both residential and commercial property, Ritch Durnford has advised on matters relating to
easements and rights-of-way, encroachments, and questions of survey.
